Paul Benham

I graduated from the University of Chichester with a First - Class BA Hons Degree in Fine Art.
My course enabled me to develop skills in a variety of mediums including sculpture, painting, printing and drawing, but it was film and photography that I became most interested in.
I soon started experimenting, combining photography, film and drawing to create works of animated images seen through the visual language of a camera lens. My final degree show film was selected for the Platform Graduate Award.
After Graduating I continued experimenting, using different camera equipment, techniques and changes of light, exploring the outcomes and making changes and subtle alterations until I achieve the image that I am happy with, this is often a long process.
My photograph titled 'Holding Water' was achieved by using a trigger to operate the shutter with sound and movement; It was later that year selected for the 2017 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

I have recently been enjoying using my Leica Cl, a small, mirrorless camera using a 23mm (35mm equivalent) Summicron Aspherical lens. My latest work is mainly of landscapes. I get inspiration from colour and texture and the way these elements interact with each other. I make slight but deliberate changes in colour and tones combining theses to create an atmosphere and sense of mood within a still image.
